P. [Notary Public] and Justice of Peace, Jacob R. Brooks, aged 86 years, a resident of Perote County of Bullock, State of Alabama. Stated he was a Private in Capt John S. Mean's Company, Cavalry regiment of Volunteers commanded by Major Ross in the Symanolee [Seminole] Indian War of 1836. He enlisted at Monsan ? Waltern [Walton[ Co GA on or about 1st day of March 1836 for the term of 3 months and was honorably discharged at Black Creek Fla on or about 1st day of May , 1836. That he is married, that the maiden name of his wife was Rebecca Jarrot Sappington, to whome he married in Waltern, GA {Walton] on 20th day of Dec 1807; that his wife is now dead, having died on 24th day of September, 1883 at Perote Alabama; that he has not since remarried. Has lived since his discharge from said service in the State of Alabama. That he makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the pension-roll of the United States under the provision of the Act of July 27, 1893. That he hereby appoints, with full power of substitution and perogative, James L. Pugh, Jr. Washington, D.C. Signed Jacob R. Brooks. Witness: B. Fryer A.
