     The following information was obtained from a communication to the Herald
from Mr. J. W. Garrett.
     Mr. Gideon H. Allen, of Walton county, committed suicide, yesterday 
morning,about 9 o'clock, by hanging. He has been demented for several weeks-
frequently in that time he told his family he would kill himself, but always 
came home at night. He left home with a rope, yesterday morning, telling his 
family not to follow him, which they did not, thinking it would turn out as on 
other occasions, but he did not return at night as usual, whereupon the family,
with the neighbors, began to search, but failed to find him until this morning. 
The rope was tied to the trunk of a tree, which was still held by the stump 
about ten feet from the ground, the top resting on the ground; his neck was
not broken, his feet, even resting on the ground. There was no evidence of a 
struggle, as not even the leaves about him were disturbed. He was deranged about
fifteen years ago, but had recovered up to a short time since. He was over sixty
years of age.
