Joel Winkfield Butts, son of Jacob Chivers Butts and Martha Amanda Sayers. He was born July 14, 1850 on the family farm north of Madison, GA, located on Little Sandy Creek. He died July 16, 1920. His wife was Mary Elizabeth Juhan of Jones County. Obituary from the Christian Index 4-29-1920, page 8 Rev. J. W. Butts, who died last week at a hospital in Atlanta, was a well known and highly honored Baptist minister. He had served during his pastoral career a number of important churches in middle and north Georgia, as well as in other States. He was a native of Morgan county and had given the best years of his life to work in that an Walton counties. He is survived by his wife and three children. J. W. Butts, Jr., of Monroe, Mrs. W. Latta, of Atlanta, and Mrs. H. F. McManus, of Brooks, GA. He was buried in Atlanta where he was living at the time of his death. The funeral services being conducted by Dr. John F. Purser, Rev. J.
