ANDREW BAY NEWS St. Andrews, Florida, January 2, 1923 OBITUARY Our last number contained a brief account of the death of Mrs. J. A. Elder at the Elder home in this city. Mrs. Elder was before marriage Vickey C. Haralson, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Haralson, of Social Circle, Ga., having been born there and living there all through her girlhood. She and Mr. Elder were married in the fall of 1891, and remained in Georgia until the fall of 1892, when they removed to Arkansas, where her husband followed millwork until 1899. Mrs. Elder's health failing, they removed from Arkansas to St. Andrews, the doctors advising her going to some place on the coast. After being here but about four months she regained her health and it remained fairly good up to her last illness. She found help in regaining her health through living much out of doors, of which life she became very fond, and this brought her in touch with nearly every citizen of St. Andrews, all of whom were her friends, and who deeply deplored her passing away. Her last illness began on Sunday, December 10th, with a pain in her head. She at once received the best of medical aid, but her trouble, apoplectic, was beyond human aid, and she slept almost continually until her death, which occurred at 12:30 a.m. December 25th, at the age of 51 years and 3 months, her birth occurring on September 25th, 1871. She leaves here her husband and three children, and grandchildren, to mourn her death , her husband, J. A. Elder, of St. Andrews; Mrs. W. T. Lash, of Millville, and Mrs. Ambus Aaron, of St. Andrews, both daughters, and Charles Elder, a son, of St. Andrews. She is also survived by her father, step-mother, six brothers, and one sister, all of whom reside in Georgia, except one brother, who lives in Arkansas. Mrs. Elder was a faithful, loving wife, and mother, and a good friend to her many acquaintances. Always helpful where she could help, she made many friends among those who most needed friends. The family have the sympathy of the entire community in this their hour of bereavement. _____________________________ CARD OF THANKS We desire to thank our friends and neighbors for the many acts of kindness shown to us during the illness and death of our beloved wife and mother. Particularly do we wish to thank Doctors Zediker, and Nixon, for their earnest and faithful services, doing all that could be done from the beginning of her illness until the end. We also would thank the colored people of the community for the help they gave, and the omitting their usual Christmas celebration feature of shooting off fireworks, and guns, that there might not be the least noise to disturb the sufferer. May God bless all the people is our earnest prayer. Mr. J. A. Elder Mrs. W. T. Lash Mrs. Ambus Aaron Charley Elder (Submitted by Barbara Walker Winge, barbarawinge@yahoo.com)
