Epps Bond, December 13, 2005 Giles, Thomas (Judge) from 1872-1889 FORMER Ordinary of Walton County Dead - - - - - - (Special to the Banner) Monroe, Ga., Jan 24 – Judge Thomas Giles, who from 1872 to 1889 was ordinary of Walton county and who for a number of years prior to that time served as clerk in the ordinary’s office under Judge Jesse Mitchell, is dead at the home of his nephew, A. C. Kelly, in this city. Judge Giles was a native of Walton county, and was 77 years of age. He was a public-spirited man and gave liberally of his wealth to public enterprises. He donated one hundred acres of valuable land and $5,000in cash to the Fifth District Agricultural and Mechanical School of this place. It was while Judge Giles was in office as ordinary that Walton’s $30,000 courthouse and $10,000 jail were built without extra taxation to the people. The funeral and burial will take place from the First Baptist church tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock.
