WARE COUNTY GA Biography WILLIAM FALK CRAWLEY File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Barbara Winge barbarawinge@yahoo.com http://files.usgwarchives.net/ga/ware/bios/crawley.txt WILLIAM FALK CRAWLEY William Falk Crawley is an Attorney at Law of Waycross, who practices in all the courts, and who has offices in the Lott-Hitch Building. He is a son of the late Capt. E. H. Crawley and Mrs. Martha M. Crawley. His father, Capt. Crawley, was one of the pioneer merchants of Ware County, first having started business in Waresboro, Georgia, soon after the close of the war, and in 1881, while Waycross was still a village, he removed from Waresoboro to Waycross and continued in the merchantile business up to the time of his death, conducting what was considered in those days the largest general mercantile establishment in this section. He was Treasurer of Ware County at the time of his death, which office he had held for a number of years. His mother is a daughter of the late Col. and Mrs. W. A. McDonald. Mr. Crawley was born at Waresoboro, Georgia, January 23rd, 1877. His education was obtained in the common schools of the county and in the Waycross Public School. After leaving the public school he enter the Law Department of the State University at Athens, Georgia, in 1897, graduating there from in June 1898, after which he entered actively into the practice of his chosen profession. During the session of the Legislature of 1899, Mr. Crawley was appointed Clerk of the General Judiciary Committee of the House of Representatives, which position he filled throughout that session with credit to himself. After the adjournment of the Legislature, Mr. Crawley again entered upon the practice of law, going to Douglas, Georgia, where he formed a co-partnership with Judge C. A. Ward, which continued until the fall of 1899, when he severed his connection at Douglas and returned to Waycross where he has since been continuously engaged in the practice. Mr. Crawley has built up quite a large practice, and is one of the foremost of the lawyers of our section. He and his brother J. L. Crawley, form the well known firm of Crawley & Crawley, who have one of the very best clientage in the county of Ware and as well several adjoining counties where they practice. Mr. Crawley is a member of the Knights of Pythias and the Woodmen of the World, having been the first Consul Commander of the Newton Pallips Camp W. O. W., formed at Waycross.
