His parents were named Curtis and Mary Ann (nee Best). His father was a farmer; was interested in educational affairs; was a member of the Secession Convention; member of the legislature from Screven; ordinary of that county; county surveyor and was civil engineer. Both parents were members of the Baptist Church. His early life and schooling was spent in Screven County and for a time he worked with his father on the farm; he has been in the mercantile life many years and he has been located in the same business, on the same site, for thirteen years. Mr. Humphreys is a Pythian Knight and is Deacon and Treasurer of the Baptist Church; was a member of the city council five or six years, and is now a member of the city Board of Education and takes a great interest in education along all lines.
