Ware County Churches Wareboro Methodist File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by Barbara Winge barbarawinge@yahoo.com http://www.usgwarchives.net/ga/ware.htm WAYCROSS JOURNAL-HERALD, Waycross, Georgia Monday, April 22, 1974 WARESBORO METHODIST CHURCH FOUNDED 1888 The original Waresboro Methodist Church was built on lot 26 of land lot 128 and consists ot 1/2 acre, more or less, and is known as the Old Church Lot, located on Church Street, which is across the railroad from the present church. The church is located on Main Street on land which was purchased from William Tyre on September 28, 1888. The Trustees for the church at that time were: A. M. Britt, George Eason, D. H. Bennett, James Lynn, L. R. Thompson, and J. M. Spence. Under the supervision of these Trustees, a new church was begun and completed in a short time. In addition to the Trustees, Charter Members were: Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Rouse, Mrs. E. E. Rouse, Anderson McQuaig, W. W. Cribb, Mrs. Millie Cribb, Dan W. Morrison, Mrs. Harriett Morrison, Mrs. Susie Hargraves, Mrs. Olive Eason, and Mrs. A. B. Patterson. Perhaps there were others that we do not have a record of. In 1935, the need was felt for a larger church building, and the old church was torn down and replaced by the one which is in use today. Rev. Robert W. Hicks was pastor at this time. During 1973, while Rev. John E. Brodess was pastor, the interior of this church building was paneled and wall-to- wall carpet installed. The Waresboro Methodist Church parsonage was bought on May 13, 1890. This building later burned and was replaced with the present parsonage around 1925. The interior of this present parsonage has been remodeled, paneled throughout, partly carpeted, and equipped with modern conveniences. While Rev. John Bagwell was pastor in 1954, the Education, or Youth Building, was completed. This building has been an asset to both the church and the community. A feeling of genuine reverrence is felt when members of the church consider the ministers who have served the church. Theirs has been an easy place to fill, but they have glorified God in their services to the Waresboro Methodist Church. The former pastors are: Rev. Austin, Rev. J. B. Culpepper, Rev. Prickett, Rev. J. C. Shern, 1888; Rev. B. F. Bales, 1889; Rev. Daniel L. Morrison, 1890-91; Rev. J. D. Snyder, 1895; Rev. A. Kelly, 1896; Rev. J. M. Boland, 1897; Rev. J. G. Baggett, 1898-1900; Rev. J. A.
