John Brown in honor of Lewis Duncan Guthrie, Jr., a Manor native who moved to Jesup at 12 years of age. Lewis was the son of Lewis Duncan Guthrie, Sr. and Laura Belle Harris Guthrie. This dedication was published in the 2001 Minutes of the Altamaha Baptist Foundation of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Lewis Guthrie, Jr. was a member of the Anderson Drive Baptist Church from 1967 until his death in July 2001. He was a faithful member serving in many positions in spite of his physical limitations. He was ordained a deacon in October 1979. He was an active member of the Brotherhood, the Jolly Christians, the church choir, the Men's Sunday School Class, a leader in Royal Ambassadors, and he was responsible for unlocking and locking the church buildings for Sunday services. Lewis had an infectious smile and his laugh will be remembered forever. He will also be remembered for his "coffee". It was stronger than anything known to man. He had a heart as big as the universe. He was deeply concerned about the spiritual condition of people he met and people he knew. He loved his church and each member. Lewis was a mighty prayer warrior. If he told you he would pray for you, he did. Lewis Guthrie will long be remembered for the impact he had on the people of Wayne County and the Altamaha Baptist Association.
