The house was modified in 1905, accordint to prior owners Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Whiddon who did extensive renovation. The Whiddonw bought the house in 1976. The house was originally patterned after a Salisbury home in Boston, Mass. After their hard work, the Whiddons moved into the home in December 1977 and they also helped in the establishment of a neighborhood preservation group - the waycross Historic Preservation Association of which he served as president. The Whiddons completely restored the house to its original condition. The home features three curly pine mantels, two oak mantels, a walnut mantel, a solid oak front door and a beautiful pine staircase. The structure's exterior is built entirely of cypress. The spirit of the holdiay season was felt throughout "Salisbury House" as approximately 80 guests enjoyed a Christmas open house held there... (This is a lengthy article about the decorations, refreshments, and party mood during the Open House. If anyone is interested, I can send it to them individually.)
