He is a native of Picken Co., AL, but he has lived most of his life in Ware County. He is retired from Swisher International as a master mechanic. He was a member of Millwood Baptist Church. He also served in the United States Army during World War II, and he was a member of the VFW. He is the son of the late Sidney Harrell. He is the husband of the late Linnie Mae Higgs Harrell. He was born and reared in Waycross and lived here most of his life. He was a long distance truck driver. He was preceded in death by his grandfather George Allen. She was a native of Screven County but had live most of her life in Ware County. She was the daughter of the late James Weslely Lee and Hattie Archer Lee and the widow of the late John Chapman Parker. Her family was a long time pioneer family who contributed a lot to Ware County. She was retired with R.L. Walker Cheverolet as office manager. She was the oldest member of First Baptist Church. She was a past member of Golden K Kiwanis Club of Waycross. She is survived by four sister in laws; Christine Cady Lee, Eleanor P. Lee both of Waycross, Alice P. Davis of New Symnra Beach, FL., Elizabeth P. Middleton of Midway, two cousins; Dorothy Smith Sedgewick, Ellen Long both of Waycross, and several other cousins. A funeral service is planned for 11:00 am Monday in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. RUBY MAE WESTBERRY SAULS BLACKSHEAR--A funeral service for Mrs. Ruby Mae Westberry Sauls, 80, will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Dr. Don Hattaway officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Blackshear Cemetery. There will be visitation this evening from 6 until 9 o’clock at Pearson-Treadwell Funenral Home. She died Friday morning (Aug. 10, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center, Waycross. A native and lifelong resident of Pierce County, she had worked in the lunchroom at Grady Street School. She also worked on the family farm with her husband, William Thomas Sauls Sr., prior to his death in 1982. Her parents were Arch L. and Janie Jacobs Westberry. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Group and of Emmanuel Baptist Church and the Golden Age Class in the Sunday School. The survivors are two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Ray Thrift of Blackshear and Mary Ann and Archie Strickland of Eastman; four sons and daughters-inlaw, William Thomas Sauls Jr. (wife Jaunette), Robert L. and Louise Sauls, and Donnie Hugh and Betty Ann Sauls, all of Blackshear, and James Willard and Carol Sauls, of Mershon; two sisters, Frances Waters of Blackshear and Edna Justice of Waycross; a brother, Howard Westberry of Jesup, 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, three great-great- grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. GERALDINE WESTBERRY SUMMERALL BLACKSHEAR--The funeral for Mrs. Geraldine Westberry Summerall, 93, is taking place at 11 a.m. today in the chapel at Pearson- Treadwell Funeral Home. The Rev. Joe Thigpen and the Rev. Freddie Wheeler are officiating. Burial will be in the Blackshear Cemetery. She died Friday afternoon (Aug. 10, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center, Waycross, following a short illness. She was a descendant of pioneer Pierce County and Coffee County families and she made significant contributions to preserving the history and genealogy of Pierce County and the state of Georgia. Her research in local cemeteries and in documents was included in the History of Pierce County written by Dean Broome and in other valued publications. she ws one of the few remaining citizens of Pierce County who knew the location and history of the Civil War era prison camp in Blackshear. She was born Oct. 20, 1907 in Coffee County but became a Blackshear resident as a young child. Her parents were Adrian Westberry and Rebecca Cowart Westberry. She also had a sister, the late Wilma Westberry Johnson. As a child she attended Blackshear First United Methodist Church but later was a member of Ward Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 70 years. She was pianist there up until a few years ago. She worked for the Brantley Company for many years. Her husband was the late Herman David Summerall, also a faithful member of Ward Memorial Church. Also preceding her in death was a grandson, Edward Jeffrey Burns. She is survived by two daughters, Geraldine "Gerry" Summerall of Blackshear and Mary Summerall Burns (husband Robert) of Semmes, Ala.; a grandson, David Burns of Nashville, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Roxie Burns Summerlin and Robbie Burns of Semmes; and cousins Ernest Williams and Jane Orser Boyett of Blackshear, Betty Williams Fisk of Miami, Fla. and Mary Orser of Jacksonville. She was a charter member, vice president and board member of the Huxford Genealogical Society and a charter member of the Pierce County Historical and Genealogical Society. Her memberships also included the John Floyd Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, Trustees Chapter of Daughters of American Colonists, Major Philip Cook Chapter of Daughters of the War of 1812, and Francis S. Bartow Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy. Memorial donations may be made to Ward Memorial Chapel or the Huxford Genealogical Society Library in Homerville. The daughter of the late Harley Samuel Haselden and Nola Peacock Haselden, Mrs. Chapmen was a hairdresser and an active member of Jamestown Baptist Church where she was a member of the Golden Age Sunday School Class, and taught Sunday School for over 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Wyburn Branson Chapman, and a nephew Wayne Vining. She was a native of Manor, Georgia, daughter of the late Frank Kight and Mary Murray Kight and the widow of the late William Herbert Foster. She had been making her home in Winter Park, Fla., since May of last year. She was a Holiness Baptist and was preceded in death by a daughter Sadie F. Skipper. A service is planned for 5:00 pm Wednesday in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Kettle Creek Cemetery. Mrs. Helen Louise Pletcher,93, died early Monday morning (8-27-01) at Bryan County Health Care Center after a lenghty illness. She was a native of Fayetteville,NC moved to Midway in 1976 but had resided most of her life in Ware County. She was the daughter of the late William A. Baggett and Ida Brown Baggett and the widow of the late Leroy Pletcher. She was retired sales lady with Churchwells department store for 10yrs. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. Mrs. Patty Marie Williford, 24, died Wednesday (August 29, 2001) from injuries received in an automobile accident in Lanier County. She was a native of Gainesville, Fla. but had resided most of her life in Douglas. She was an employee of Kay's Transport. The survivors include her husband, Carlton Williford, Jr. of Waycross; three children, James Michael Shelton of Douglas, Sarah Catherine Williford and Georgia Skeylar Williford both of Waycross; her parents, Jimmy and Marie Shelton of Douglas; a brother, Alex Eugene Shelton of Douglas; her grandparents, Patty Jo Tiner of Homerville, Frank Norris, Sr. of Panama City, Fla.; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry and Lavada Gillis of Waycross; several other relatives. Mrs. Mary Jane (Satterfield) Knox, 89 (8-29-2001) Dublin native (Miles-Odum Funeral Home, Waycross) Mary Jane Knox, 89, died Wednesday night (8-29-01) at the Satilla Regional Medical Center after a short illness. She was a native of Dublin, Georgia daughter of the late James Benjamin Satterfield and Pearl Flowers Satterfield and the widow of the late Jack Herman Knox. She had lived most of her life in Waycross where she was a member of the First Baptist Church, Harvester’s Sunday School Class and the Golden Glow Grandmother’s Club. She is survived by five daughters Anne Woodside and her husband Francis of Clayton, Ga., Rosalind Crooks of Marietta, Ga., Jane Taylor of Folkston, Ga., Edmee Segrest and her husband Joe of Waycross, Ga. and Jacqueline Fry and her husband John of Macon, Ga.; one son William L. "Bill" Knox and his wife Caroline of Atlanta, Ga.; twelve Grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, one step great grandchild, three great great grandchildren, a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon (9-1-01) at one o’clock in the chapel of the Miles-Odum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. A Carman for CSX Railroad for 36 years Mr. Lynes was a member of Mt. Pleasant Primitive Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He also served in the United States Navy, and was a member of the Frank C. Folks Masonic Lodge. Mr. Lynes was preceded in death by his parents Robert Russell Lynes, and Janie Warren Lynes, and also his wife Agnes Gassett Lynes.
