W. Barker Dies; Rites Set Saturday Clarence Winfield Barker Sr., 67, of Moran Ave., dies yesterday afternoon in a local hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Appling County, son of the late Winfield Barker and Susan Mercer Barker. He resided in Waycross for the past 50 years where he was associated with Atlantic Coast Line Railroad Co. Barker was a crane operator until his retirement in January 1993. He was a member of Hebbardville Baptist Church, the adult Sunday School Class and had been music director for the church for many years, was former chairman of the Board of Deacons and former Sunday School Superintendent. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Okefenokee Barracks Veterans of World War I, and a member of the Brotherhood of Railway of Steamship Clerks. He was a 4-H Club leader for a number of years. Barker is survived by his widow, the former Miss Nettie O’Berry of Waycross; two daughters, Mrs. Eloise Murray, Waycross, and Mrs. Elizabeth Hinson, Brunswick; five sons, Carl Barker, Richard Barker, and C. W. Barker Jr., all of Waycross, Raymond Barker, Sun Valley, Calif and Jack Barker, U. S. Army Ft. Bragg N.C.; 3 sisters Mrs. Bessie Decker of Gainesville, Fla., Mrs. Maggie Parrish, St. Cloud, Fla., and Mrs. Eula Dow, Mt. Vernon Texas; one brother William E. Barker, Mobile, Ala.; 16 grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held tomorrow at 5 p. m. at Hebbardville Baptist Church. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery. The body will be carried to the residence at 4 p. m. today. Miles-Odum Funeral Home ia in charge of arrangements.
