B. CASON DIES; SERVICE SET TODAY Joseph Benjamin Cason, Sr., 87, died yesterday at Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Ware County and the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Alfred Cason Mr. Cason had lived all his life in the Waycross-Ware County area. A member of a distinguished pioneer family, he was the great grandson of Dr. Randall McDonald, the first medical doctor in Ware County. His grandfather, John Barr Cason, and his father, James Alfred Cason were prominently identified with the early political and educational growth of the County both having served as representatives to the State Legislature and in local political offices. His father served as chairman of the Ware County Board of Education. A graduate of Douglas Institute, Mr. Cason began his career as a school teacher and was also Ware County's first rural mail carrier. For several years he was owner and manager of Cason Grocery Company. Widely known in railroad circles, Mr. Cason was a "railroader" for 35 years. He was commercial agent for the AB&C Railroad here from 1920 until 1946 when it was consolidated with the ACL Railroad which he then served as assistant freight agent. He resigned his post in 1947 to operate his private business, Ware Fertilizer Company. He sold this business in 1965 and since that time enjoyed "semi-retirement," still maintaining a downtown office. A member of Central Baptist Church since 1926, he was a member of the Men's Bible Class. On January 30, of this year, Mr. and Mrs. Cason celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. Mr. Cason showed his love for young people by being instrumental in helping many become teachers, doctors, laboratory technicians, church secretaries, and educational directors. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Fredda Harbn Cason, Waycross, five daughters, Mrs. George Farr and Mrs. Leonard P. Butler, both of Waycross, Mrs. C. N. Drinkwater, Silver Springs, Md., Mrs. Ken Drupiewski, Winter Park, Fla., Mrs. E. L. Williams, Sr., Cotton Dale, Fla., two sons, Joseph B. Cason, Jr., Waycross, Richard K. Cason, Tampa, Fla., one sister, Mrs. Ben Furlong, Quitman; 23 grandchldren, 14 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Central Baptist Church with burial in Lott Cemetery. Mincy-Fulford Funeral Home is in charge.
