A native of Brantley County, he worked for B & W for a number of years and was a farmer. His parents were Riley Walker Sr. and Minnie Vera Crews Walker. He is preceded in death by his son, Rick Walker, three brothers and two sisters. Hobbs, Jr., 74, died early Thursday (January 31, 2002) morning at his residence following a short illness. He was a native of Charlotte, North Carolina but had resided in Waycross for the past four years. He was son of the late Joseph C. Hobbs, Sr. and Maurine Hobbs and was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Miller. He was retired medic in the U.S. army, serving in World War II and three tours during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Hobbs was retired from CSX Railroad. He attended Trinity Baptist Church in Keystone Heights, Fla. and was a member of a Masonic Lodge in San Antonio, Texas. She was married to first husband, the late Wilbur Lee Woodard and her second husband, the late Fred Shehan and was daughter of the late George P. Sammons and Rosa Mae Brown Snellgrove. Mrs. Shehan was retired from McCrory's and in her teenage years worked at the Bluebird Cafe. She was affiliated with the baptist faith. Higginson, Jr., 80, died Monday afternoon (2-4-02) at his residence after a short illness. He was born in Boonville, Ind., son of the late Van D. Higginson, Sr. and Mamie Wright Higginson. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the Air Force as a tech Sargeant. He was stationed at the Waycross Air Base at the end of the war where he met his first wife, Mary Kate Fender Higginson. They were married and lived for nearly fifty years in Waycross until Mary's death in November of 1994. He was employed in Waycross at McCann & Reid's for nearly thirty years. Many of those years he was parts manager of the international truck dealership. He also served as general manger of the Jenkins Enterprise International dealership Brunswick, Georgia and as factory dealer representative for the W. W. Williams, General Motors Distributorship in Savannah, Georgia. In his retirement years, he lovingly cared for the grounds of his beloved church facilities, Central Baptist Church where he served his church in many capacities. He was Co-Chairman of the properties committee for many different years. He served as a Deacon actively through out his life with his last term ending September 30, 2001. He loved his Lord and gladly spent his life in service to him. He was preceded in death by two brothers Glen and Ralph Higginson. She was a native of Waycross and had resided most of her life in Waycross. She was married to the late Shelton Westberry and was daughter of the late W. H. Bagley and America Williams Bagley. Mrs. Westberry was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church. She was not only known for her cooking and sewing but also her love for fishing which she enjoyed so many years with her late husband Shelton. For many years she was the strength of our family and will be sorely missed but we know she has gone to a better place. The survivors include two sons James H.
