He was a native of Pierce County and the son of the late Waiter Fleming Hyers and Macie Brunson Hyers. He had made his home in Jamestown the past 12 years and was a yard conductor at Rice Yard, Seaboard CoastLine Railroad, with 27 and a half years of service. He was a member of Central Baptist Church, the Men's Brotherhood" the Fisherman Sunday S/hool Class, and the United Trainmen's Union. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Emily Barrow Hyers, Waycross; three sons, Staff Sgt. Michael Hyers, Pope Air Force Base, N. C., Richard Hyers and Randy Hyers, both of Waycross; four brothers, Brunson Hyers, Waycross, Bobby Hyers, Mershon, Fred Hyers, Carmichael, Calif., and Bennie Hyers, Columbus; four sisters, Mrs. Juneau Zerban, Rainbow Springs, Fla., Mrs. Eddie Lou West, Jackson, N.C., Mrs. Sue Carol Hodges, Mobile, Ala., Mrs. Macie Ann Mooney, Doraville; nieces, 'nephews and .other relatives.; Funeral will be held Thursday at 5 p.m, at the Central Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The United Trainmen's Union and the Fishermen's Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers and are asked to gather at the church at 4:30 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 8 to 10 o'clock tomorrow night.
