The Georgia Enterprise, February 17 1899
     Rev. J. S. McCarthy, a well known Georgian, died at his home in 
Waltertown. He was 78 years of age, and had suffered many years from a cancer 
on his neck. Mr. McCarthy was drummer in the Twenty-sixth Georgia regiment. For 
several years he had been postmaster at Waltertown, and a notary public. He was 
a preacher in the Congregational Church at the time of his death.
