Burial will be in the Thomas Cemetery in Brantley County. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 until 8 o'clock at Miles-Odum Funeral Home. She died Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 6, 2001) at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness. Mrs. Aldridge was the widow of Richard Pierce Aldridge of Brantley County and daughter of Lawt Shuman and Kizzie Viola Peacock Shuman of Pierce County. She made her home in Waycross the past three years and was a member of Waring Community Church. She was born and reared in Pierce County but lived for many years in Brantley County. She is survived by a brother, J.C. Shuman, and his wife, Myrtice, of Yulee, Fla., and a number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. MOZELL HIGHSMITH ROZIER NAHUNTA--Mrs. Mozell Highsmith Rozier, 97, of Nahunta, died Monday (nov. 5, 2001) at the Southeast Georgia Regional Medical Center in Brunswick, following a long illness. She was born in a section of Wayne County that is now part of Brantley County. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Her parents were James Franklin and Julia Ann Mizell Highsmith. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Harrell Murray of Savannah and Ann and Ty Raulerson of Nahunta; seven grandchildren, Timothy, Blake and Christy Raulerson, Harrell, Frank and Morgan Murray, and Susan Griffin, and 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. There will be visitation tonight at Chambless Funeral Home, 115 Satilla Ave., Nahunta, starting at 7 o'clock. The Rev. Michael Gibbs will conduct a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday at the Pilgrim'sRest Cemetery in Waynesville. Her grandsons will be pallbearers. Waycross Journal-Herald, Sat. Nov. 10, 2001: MRS. BURNIECE THOMAS Mrs. Burniece Thomas died Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2001) at the Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. She moved to Waycross in September 2000 from Detroit, Mich., where she had lived since 1952. She attended school in Albany, Ga. and was a retired nurse's aide with 25 years of service in Detroit. She was a member of the Linwood Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses in Detroit and the Northeast Congregation in Waycross. The survivors include a brother, Eddie Jackson of Waycross; three sisters, Jannie Hobbs and Mary Alice Lawson, both of Waycross, and Emmie Lee Brown (husband (Frank) of Perry, Fla. Also surviving are a son, Carl Thomas (wife Joanne) of Highland Park, Mich.; two daughters, Rev. Linda Jean Slaughter-Titus (wife of Rev. Phylemon D. Titus) of Detroit and Dorothy M. Whitehead (husband Donald) of Beverly Hills, Mich.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. "She was the center of the entire Jackson and Thomas family," said her daughter Linda. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall on Corridor Z in Waycross. Crawford, 89, died Friday night (11-16-01) at the Dekalb Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia after an extended illness. She was a native of Brunswick, Georgia daughter of the late W. W. Brett and Minnie Wilcox Brett and the widow of the late Frederick W. Crawford, Sr. She had lived most of her life in Waycross and was a member of the Catholic Church. She is survived by one son Fred W. Crawford, Jr. and his wife Gloria of Decatur, Ga.; one brother Woodrow Brett and his wife Louise of Jesup, Ga.; four grandchildren Kimberly Dabolt and her husband Ruhl of Sanford, N. Worley died at Baptist Village in Waycross, Georgia on Friday, Nov. 16, 2001 after a brief illness. Funeral service for Mr. Worley has been set for 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 in The Mitchell Chapel at Baptist Village with Dr. Freddie Smith officiating. Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Worley was a businessman, owning businesses in Brunswick and later in Witchita Falls, TX. He was a member of the Baptist Church serving as a deacon for many years and was elected ''Life Deacon'' at the First Baptist Church in Brunswick. He was active in Boy Scouts of America when he served on the Board of Directors for a number of years. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Brunswick. She is a native of Atlanta, but has lived most of her life in Waycross. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Sewing Circle Club, and the Garden Club. Her parents were the late Oliver Beaumont Turner and Louise Johnson Turner. Her husband was the late Sion W. ''Snow'' White. She is survived by her two sons, Steve White (wife Vicki) of Waycross, and Andy White of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Katie and Emily White of Atlanta, and Hannah and Christopher White of Waycross; one brother, O. He was a native of Sampson, Ala., son of the late James Steven Thames and Jessie Gertrude Cannon Thames. He had lived several years in Gainesville, Fla., before moving to Waycross in 1958. He retired as a conductor with the SCL Railroad in 1978 with thirty-eight years of service. He was an Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Waycross and a member of the Men's Bible Class. He was a 55 year member of the Gainesville Masonic Lodge # 41 F & AM, Eastern Star Chapter # 474, Hasan Temple, Ambassdor Emeritus with the Shrine Club, an honorary member of the Frank C. Folks Lodge # 192 F & AM and a Scottish Rite Mason. A member of the U. T. U. for 53 years. He served with the U. S. Navy during World War Two. Born Hillie Sue Davis in Dothan, Ala. on April 29, 1947. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School, received her Bachelor's Degree from Georgia Southern University, and earned a Master's Degree in Speech Therapy from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. She was a former assistant professor of speech therapy at the University of Tennessee-Memphis. Generous of her heart and her time, Hillie Sue gave her energy and talents to her family, her friends, her church and her community. She was a Girl Scout leader for Troop 289 of the Tequesta Neighborhood and was a member of the Lima Catholic Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister and a lector and was active in the Women's Club. She was a volunteer parent at the Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School. She was, as her daughter's friends put it, ''the cool mom''. She was also the social director for the Davis family annual beach reunion. The suvivors include her beloved husband of 20 years, Dr. Manuel B. Cuesta of Waycross; her cherished daughter, Victoria E. He was a native of Macon but had resided in Waycross since 1947. He was son of the late Herchel Vernon Scarborough and Maude Moore Scarborough and was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Altman. He retired from Peeler Hardware Co. after working 54 years for them. He served in the Air Force during World War II and was a prisoner of war. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Victory-Keystone Sunday School Class, Usher of the Church, Waycross Elks Club and was a Mason. The survivors include his wife of 56 years, Eloise Hays Scarborough of Waycross; two daughters, Jan Wieland (husband Tim), Becky Dell (husband Clyde) of Waycross; two grandchildren, Jamie Bruner (wife Heather) of Waycross, Kimberly Cagle of Atlanta; a son-in-law, Terry Altman (wife Ellen) of Waycross; a sister, Emily McDonald (husband Gene) of Americus; a brother, Vernon Scarborough (wife Doris) of Macon. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. He was a native of Clinch County but had resided in Waycross for the past 23 years. He was owner of Tempco and was a former truck driver. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Swamp Road Baptist Church. Cannon, pallbearers Mr. Norman Christian Holst, pallbearers Thurs., Nov. 29, 2001: Mr. Cecil Herrin, 82 (11-27-2001) Burroughs, Ga. native (Music Funeral Home, Waycross) September 15, 1919 - November 27, 2001 Mr. Cecil Herrin, 82, died Tuesday (November 27, 2001) in Satilla Regional Medical Center following an extended illness. He was a native of Burroughs, Ga. but had resided in Waycross most of his life. He was son of the late Abraham Preston Herrin and Idelle Dowling Herrin and was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lancewell Herrin and Earl L. Herrin. He was retired owner of Cecil Herrin Home Furnishings. He served during World War II as a Captain in the 3rd Army of the European Theatre and received the bronze star. Mr. Herrin was a member of First Baptist Church, a deacon and taught sunday school. He was a life member and chairman for many years of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, a Mason, a Ware County Commissioner, past president of the Waycross/Ware Chamber of Commerce, past president of the Waycross Rotary Club, a member of the Waycross Elks Club and Okefenokee Golf and Country Club, served on the Georgia Retail Home Furnishing Association Board of Directors, served on the founding steering committee of the Harold Learning Center, in 1955 received the first Waycross Jaycee Outstanding Young Man Award, and received the 1989 Morris Jacobson Brotherhood Award. The survivors include his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Gillis Herrin of Waycross; three sons, Charles E. Herrin of Covington, Jimmy Herrin (wife Janet) and Tommy Herrin both of Waycross; two granddaughters, Holly L. Herrin of Athens, Lauren O. Herrin of Statesboro; a sister, Sue Herrin Papadeas of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Oakland Cemetery. His CB name was ''Matchbox'' and he talked locally and all over the world. He was president of the Twin Lake Hunting Club.
