A heavy equipment operator with Ernest Lewis Construction Company, he was a native of Clinch County but had resided in Waycross for the past 55 years. He was a member of Homestead Evangelistic Church in Pierce County and was the son of James Madison Johnson and Cindy Jordan Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Mrs.Emily Fowler Johnson, Waycross; five daughters, Mrs.Louise Rowell and Mrs.Carolyn Tuten both of Blackshear, Mrs.Faye Higginbotham and Mrs.Joy Dixon, both of Waycross and Mrs.Merinda Bennett, Houston, Texas; three sons, Leo Johnson, Hoboken, J.C.Johnson, Waycross and Edward Johnson, Jacksonville, FL; two sisters, Mrs.Frances Blanton, Plant City, FL and Mrs.Bell Smith, Tampa, FL; 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at Homestead Evangelistic Church with the Rev.Carl Rowell and the Rev.Mack Nails officiating. Burial was in Ben James Cemetery. Pallbearers were Craig Johnson, Robin Johnson, Kenny Johnson, Wesley Tuten, Junior Rowell and David Rowell. Grandsons served as honorary pallbearers. Miles-Odum Funeral Home was in charge.
