A native of Pierce County, he moved to Central Florida in 1942, but returned to Brantley County several years ago. He was a retired refrigeration mechanic and was a member of the Waynesville Church of God. He was a veteran of World War II and served as adjutant of Disabled American Veterans Chapter #4 in Nahunta. Survivors include his wife, Rosalyn Shirleen Thornton, Waynesville; two daughters, Mary Faye Russell and Sherry Robinson, Apopka, Fla.; three step-sons, Redick Thornton III, Blackshear, Joey Thornton, Hortense and Allen Thornton, Waynesville; three step-daughters, Sinda Gonzalez, Ft. Collins, Colorado, Susan Corwin, Brunswick and Rose Drury, Waynesville; four sisters, Lola Grace Draffin, Waycross, Nola Mae Tyre and Adeline O'Bannion, Offerman and Evonne Garganous, Hollywood, Fla.; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and many step-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, from the Apopka Church of God in Apopka, Fla. with the Rev. Ion Johns and the Rev. Tony Gillian officiating. Interment followed in the Highland Memory Gardens in Apopka, Fla. Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home of Apopka, Fla. was in charge of funeral arrangements. - - - - -
