Mr. Woodard was one of the oldest citizens in this section, and leaves a large family of grown children and a wife to mourn his loss. Mr. Woodard was in town day before yesterday in apparently good health. Heart disease was the cause of his death. The remains will be buried at Mount Pleasant church, about one and half miles east of town, this morning. Thursday, January 22, 1942, Waycross Journal-Herald: GORDON WOODARD DIES Member of Widely Known Family In This Section: Many friends in Waycross and South Georgia were saddened today by the death of G. Gordon Woodard, 71, which occurred yesterday afternoon at 6:45 o'clock at his home four miles east of Wayross. Mr. Woodard, member of one of the most widely known families of this section of Georgia, had spent his entire life in this immediate section, being recognized as one of Ware county's ablest farmers. He succumbed after a short illness, having been stricken following church services Sunday before last, eleven days ago. He was born Nov. 18, 1870, son of Ambrose Woodard and Ardelia Dowling Woodard, life-long pioneer residents of Ware county. He was a brother of the late D.A. "Bub" Woodard, who served for a quarter of a century as Ware county commissioner of roads and revenues. His only sister is Mrs. A.A. Warren, who resided at 815 Morton avenue, Waycross. Mr. Woodard was a devoted member of the Congregational Methodist Church since boyhood, being affiliated with the Whitehall Church which is located in his community. He servied for many years as a steward. He is survived by his wife; by four sons, Lonnie Woodard, Oscar Woodard, Andy Woodard and Willie Woodard and three daughters, Miss Correne (Corine) Woodard, Miss Ardelia Woodard and Mrs. J.P. Adams of Waycross; one sister Mrs. A. A. Warren of Waycross; also fifteen grandchildren. The funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:30 o'clock at the residence with the Rev. Lee Sweat officiating. Burial will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The Mincy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Tuesday, January 20, 1920, The Waycross Journal Herald: MRS. G. G. WOODARD Mrs. G. G. Woodard, aged 45 died at her home three miles out of Waycross early this morning after a few weeks' illness. She is survived by her husband, four sons, L. N., Oscar, Andy and Willie, and three daughters, Misses Carney, Culbert and Ardelia. The husband of the deceased is a brother to D. A. Woodard, county commissioner. The funeral services and interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 o'clock. Mrs. Woodard was a member of the Congregational Church. H. Woodard, 83, well-known farmer of the Hoboken section, died at his home Friday after an extended illness. He is survived by two sons, W. W. Woodard and I. J. Woodard of Hoboken, three daughters, Mrs. I. B. Crews and Miss Della Woodard of Hoboken, and Mrs. L. Lyles of Waycross; a brother M. I. Woodard of Waycross and three sisters, Mrs. D. I. Musgrove of Hilliard, Fla., Mrs. John Williams of Waycross and Mrs. Walter Sapp of Waycross. Funeral services were not definitely arranged this afternoon. Wednesday, November 8, 1967, Waycross Journal-Herald: Lonnie Woodard, 69, of the Woodard Community on Brunswick Highway, died suddenly this morning at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of the Woodard Community,he was the son of the late G. Gordon Woodard and Georgia Justice Woodard. He was a retired painter with the ACL Railroad and farmer, and was a member of the Woodard Chapel Church. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Edith Shope of Murray County; three daughters, Mrs. R. M. Craven, Mrs. L. W. Bennett and Miss Vera Woodard, all of Waycross; four sons, Jack Woodard, Dawson Woodard, Billoy Woodard and Ronnie Woodard, also of Waycross; three sisters, Mrs. J. P. Adams, Mrs. H. O. Griffis and Miss Corine Woodard, of Waycross; a brother, W. H. Woodard of Waycross and seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. from the Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. The body will remain in the residence until the hour of service. Monday, September 10, 1956, Waycross Journal-Herald: OSCAR AMBROSE WOODARD Oscar Ambrose Woodard, 56, died in a local hospital last night following a stroke yesterday morning. Mr. Woodard was a life-long resident of Ware County and was a prominent farmer in the Woodard-Godwin community. He was an employe of Atlantic Coast Line Railroad shops for many years, retiring in 1948 because of ill health. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Fannie Driggers, of Waycross; five daughters, Mrs. L. C. Strickland, Mrs. J.C. Dowling, Mrs. Eugene Spell, Mrs. Jimmy Walker and Miss Nell Woodard, all of Waycross; six sons, Charles Woodard, U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Jackson, S.C.; A.W. Woodard, U.S. Army, stationed in Germany, Lawrence Woodard, Donald Woodard; Jimmy Woodard, and Glenn Woodard, all of Waycross; three sisters, Miss Corine Woodard, Mrs. J.P. Adams and Mrs. H. O. Groffis, all of Waycross; three brothers, L.M. Woodard, Andy Woodard, and W.H. Woodard, all of Waycross; and ten grandchildren. She was a member of Woodard Chapel Congregational Methodist Church and the daughter of the late Henry C. Driggers and Ellen Strickland Driggers. Her husband was the late Oscar Ambrose Woodard. Mrs. Woodard was a lifelong resident of Ware County. She is survived by six sons, Charles Woodard, A.W. Woodard, Lawrence Woodard, and Glen Woodard, all of Waycross, Jimmy Woodard, Hoboken, and Donald Woodard, Statesboro; five daughters, Mrs. L.C. Strickland, Mrs. J.C. Dowling, Mrs. Eugene Spell, Mrs. Aubrey Jacobs and Miss Nell Woodard, all of Waycross; a brother, Warren Henry Driggers, Waycross; 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Woodard Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. The body will be taken to her residence on Route 2 this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Richard Johnson, the Rev. Hughie Dixon and the Rev. Bud Jernigan officiating. Pallbearers were Ira Walker, Michael Walker, Jim Woodard, Tim Woodard, A.W. Monday, November 25, 1957, Waycross Journal-Herald: BURNS ARE FATAL TO WARE COUNTIAN Andy Woodard, 54, member of a well-known Ware County family, died yesterday morning in a local hospital from burns suffered Saturday night when a bedroom of his residence onRte. 2 Waycross caught fire. He reportedly suffered third degree burns over 60 per cent of his body after apparently falling asleep while smoking. Mr. Woodard was a native of Ware County, son of the late Gordon G. Woodard and Georgia Justice Woodard. He was a farmer and a member of the Woodard Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Jewel Revels; two brothers L. N. Woodard, and W. H. Woodard; three sisters, Miss Corine Woodard, Mrs. H. O. Griffis and Mrs. Cuthbert Adams all of Rte. 2 Waycross and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 o'clock at Woodard Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Clyde DuBose, pastor. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Thursday, May 29, 1969, Waycross Journal-Herald: William Henry (Bill) Woodard, 62, prominent farmer of the Woodard-Godwin community of Ware County died last night in Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. He was a lifelong resident of Ware County, and son of the late General Gordon Woodard and Georgia Justice Woodard. He was associated with the Seaboard Coastline Railroad for the past 27 years as a welder. He was a member of the Woodard Chapel Congregational Methodist Church and Victory Camp No. 477 Woodmen of the World. Survivors include three sisters, Miss Corine Woodard, Mrs. J. P. Adams and Mrs. H. O. Griffis, all of Waycross; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was the nephew of Mrs. D. A. Woodard of Waycross. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Woodard Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Thursday, August 11, 1977, Waycross Journal-Herald: Charges Expected DAWSON WOODARD DIES OF GUN SHOT WOUND A Waycross businessman who was a member of a prominent Ware family died at his resident early today of a gun wound and authorities expect charges in the case later today. Dawson Ambrose (Bubba) Woodard, age 42, of Woodard's Trailer Park on U.S. 84 East, died in the shooting at his home about 3 a.m. today, Ware Sheriff W.E. Strickland says. Investigators say that Ms. Dorothy Horne, also of Woodard's Trailer Park, is expected to be charged with murder later today in connection with the shooting. Sheriff Strickland says the Georgia Burial of Investigation has been called in to assist in the inquiry. Investigators say Woodard was struck in the upper left chest with a bullet from a .44 caliber revolver. No motive for the shooting had been determined at deadline today. First officers on the scene this morning were Sheriff's Lt. Jimmy McQuaig and Sgt. Glynn Rouse. The invetigation was then turned over to Sheriff Strickland, Capt. J.E. Murrhee and Deputy Donald Durr. Woodard was a native and life-long resident of Ware County. He was the son of Mrs. L.N. Woodard and the late Lonnie N. Woodard. Mr. Woodard owned and operated the Woodard Service Station and D.A. Woodard's Pools, on Memorial Drive. He was educated int he Ware School System. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1958-66. He was a member of Woodard Chapel Church. Survivors are one daughter, Miss Kathi Woodard, Waycross; two sons, Davy Dawson Woodard and Gordon Alan Woodard, both of Waycross; his mother, Mrs. L.N. Woodard, Waycross, three sisters, Mrs. R.M. (Lawana) Craven, Mrs. Lewis (Elise) Bennett, and Mrs. Freddie (Vera) Sikes, Jr., all of Waycross; three brothers Jack G. Woodard and Ronnie A. Woodard, both of Waycross, and Billy E. Woodard, Jacksonville; a number of aunts, uncles and other relatives. Funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Woodard Chapel Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
