Warren Co, GA 1792 BIBLE RECORD OF THE FAMILY OF JOSEPH COBB BROOKS; (I understand that this Bible is in the hands of a descendant of Joseph C. Brooks): This Bible was published by M'Carty & Davis, No. 171 Market Street, Philadelphia, 1834. (The original was written in double columns. Transcribing it into a single columnar form changed the order in which the entries actually appeared in the original.) Marriages: Joseph C. Brooks, the son of James Brooks was married to Lydia Pratt, the daughter of Leonard Pratt on the 27th day of December in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight-hundred and eighteen. William Drew and Elizabeth Brooks was married on the 19th day of November 1837. Births: Joseph (Cobb) Brooks, the Son of James & Falby Brooks was born on the 27th day of August in the year A.D. 1792 in the County of Warren and State of Georgia. Lydia Brooks, the daughter of Lenard and Elizabeth Pratt was born the twenty first day of March and in year of our Lord 1798 in the county of Warren and State of Georgia. Allen Brooks was born December the 30th day in the year of 1815. (His name was Allen Balaam Brooks) James P. Brooks was born November the 4th day in the year 1818. (His name was James Pratt Brooks) Vincent Lenard Brooks was born the 6th day of May in the year 1834. Lydia Pratt Brooks was born the 3rd day of June in the year 1831. Masouri Ann Brooks was born the 26th day of of the year 1836. Deaths: Bailey M. Brooks was born the 25th day of April and in the year 1820. Elizabeth P. Brooks was born the 13th day of March and in the year 1822. Falby Cobb Brooks was born the 12th day of March and in the year 1824. Eliza Jane Story Brooks was born the 26th day of June in the year 1826. Joseph Cobb Brooks, Junr. was born the 30th day of December January in the year 1828. Joseph Cobb Brooks died the 14th day of January 1852. Lydia P. Brooks died 15th March 1843. Vincent Lenard died 16 day of March 1843. Elizabeth Drew, the daughter of Joseph C. Brooks and Lydia Brooks Departed this life on 2 day June 1838 after an illness of eliven days with what was thought to be Side Pleurisy, She took her exit about half after eliven. She bore her illness with Christian fortitude and in the last and dying moments called her friends arounde her bedside and with composed mind and Christian fortitude admonished her brothers and sisters and friends not to greve after her but to try to prepare for a better World than this and in a few moments expired -- aged 15 years and Two months. Her name could have been spelled Phalbe or Phalba. See Bible record below: MILITARY: JOSEPH C. BROOKS enlisted 19 Jun 1836, for a period of three months during the Creek Indian War, in Capt. MUSGROVE's company, McMILLION's 1st Battalion 4th Alabama Mounted Volunteers. He was assigned to an unnamed camp 18 miles below Fort Mitchell, Alabama. He was mustered out on 29 Jul 1836 at Montgomery, Alabama. He was paid for 43 rations and 35 of forage in kind. CENSUS: The 1840 U. S. Federal Census of Pike County, Alabama enumerated the household of Joseph C. BROOKS as follows: one male between 5 and 10, one male between 10 and 15, one male between 40 and 50, one female between 5 and 10, one female between 10 and 15, and one female between 40 and 50. The 1850 U. S. Federal Census of Pike County, Alabama enumerated Josephus BROOKS, farmer, age 22, born in Georgia and Martha BROOKS, age 19, born in Georgia as members of the household of J. C. BROOKS; it is assumed that Josephus and Martha were man and wife. This Census also enumerated Thomas J VANCE, age 23, born in Alabama as a member of the household. CHILDREN: See Bible Record below: ESTATE: PIKE COUNTY, AL, Book 17, Page 812 Joseph C. BROOKS Estate Settlement Adm: Lydia BROOKS Inventory & appraisement of the property of the deceased was returned to Court by the administrator on July 10, 1852. The appraisers were Josiah BROOKS, H. HOLIDAY & James BOATRIGHT. The property consisted of 1 water pail, 1 bee hive & 1 spider. BROOKS, Joseph C. Letters of Administration Book 12, Pages 672-673 Lydia Brooks was appointed administrator of the estate of Joseph C. Brooks on July 1, 1852. Signing the bond as sureties were Wade H. Montgomery & William M. Hill. On Feb. 23, 1853 Judge Bird Fitzpatrick of the Pike County Probate Court stated that the estate was worthless, as appeared from inventory, consisting of the sum of $1.75, & he discharged Lydia Brooks & her sureties from their obligation.
