He married (as his first wife) MARTHA ANNA REBECCA LOWE 22 August 1872 in Warren County, Georgia. MARTHA ANNA REBECCA was born 31 May 1850 in Warren County, Georgia and died 25 October 1876 in Warren County, Georgia. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON and MARTHA ANNA REBECCA LOWE had two children: JOHN BIGHAM JOHNSON who married first Janet (Nettie) Norris and married second her sister LOUISA ELLEN (LUELLEN) NORRIS; and David William. MARTHA ANNA REBECCA LOWE JOHNSON died 25 October 1876 in Warren County, Georgia, 10 days after the death of her father, DAVID W. LOWE. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON was appointed guardian for their minor children 03 April 1877. The Bond indicated that JOHN BIGHAM JOHNSON and David William Johnson, as her heirs, were entitled to a part of their mother’s estate, which was undivided and held by the Administrator of the estate of their grandfather, DAVID W. LOWE. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON married (as his second wife) Ella Matilda Wall 08 February 1878 in Warren County, Georgia. Ella Wall Johnson was born 12 March 1857 in Warren County, Georgia. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON and Ella Matilda Wall Johnson’s children were: Emily Nevada, who married James Will Norris; Lilly Hubert; George Duvall, who married Maggie Guy; Mary Alice (Icerlena), who married first Pink Story and second Edwin Richards; Narcissa May; Tom Truitt, who married first Mattie Lee Smith and second Omie Beasley; Sterling Smith, who married Beulah McGahee; Ola Lamar who married Charles A. Smith; and Columbus Cheatum, who married Koree McGahee. Ella Matilda Wall Johnson died 05 November 1923 in Warren County, Georgia. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON served in the Confederate States Army as a Private in Co. K, 28 Georgia Infantry Volunteers. He appeared on the Company Muster Roll beginning March 1, 1862. A report dated 09 May 1863 noted that he received a severe wound to his hand in action about Chancellorsville, VA. In his Application for Soldier’s Pension he indicated that he enlisted in Co. I, Fifth Georgia Militia, Warrenton, Georgia Infantry and was in actual military service from July, 1864 to April, 1865, being discharged at Augusta, Georgia. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON was a member of Gibson Lodge No. 257, Free and Accepted Masons, having been raised 25 August 1871. He was also a member of the Hubert Chapter No. 120, Royal Arch Masons. DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON wrote an Annual Letter for many years which was published in the Warrenton Clipper. The content of those letters reflect his character. In one of his last letters, published in the Warrenton Clipper on Friday, 03 August 1928, page 2, he noted, “There are three fundamental qualities that lie at the base of true nobility of character. First, love of the truth; second, courage to do battle for the truth; third, deep and abiding sympathy for humanity.” DAVID PATRICK JOHNSON died 05 October 1928 in the Little Brier Creek Community of Warren County, Georgia on his farm of one hundred and seventy three acres bounded on the West by land belonging to the estate of his father-in-law David W. Lowe. He was buried between, and shares a memorial marker with, his first and second wives in rural Warren County, Georgia in Arkansas Cemetery. His Obituary, which appeared in The Warrenton Clipper, 05 October 1928, stated, “In the Little Brier Creek News in this paper is reported the death of Judge David Patrick Johnson, 81 years old, who was born and had lived in that community all his life with the exception of two years in the army as a Confederate soldier. Judge Johnson was Justice of the Peace in the 153rd district and had held this office for over 30 years. He was a philosopher, highly esteemed by a host of friends, and for several years wrote an annual letter for publication in the Clipper.” In was also noted that his funeral was with Masonic Honors conducted by the Franklin Lodge.
