He has been in feeble health for the last few years, and for several weeks his condition has been precarious, and the end expected at any moment. At one time there was no more prominent figure in Georgia than Judge Gibson, who was conspicuous in state politics and held offices of honor and trust. He was a native of Warren county, where he was born seventy three years ago. He moved to Augusta in 1856 and entered the practice of law, in which profession he built up quite a reputation, and became renowned as a jurist of unusual ability. He was recorder of Augusta for several years, represented Richmond county in the state legislature for several years, and at one time held the honored position of president of the Senate. No braver or truer soldier entered the confederate ranks than Judge Gibson. For his fortitude and courage displayed on the battlefield he was made colonel of the Forty-eighth Georgia Regiment. He was at one time judge of the Middle Circuit and afterward judge of the Augusta Circuit of the Superior Court. After he retired from the bench the judge entered a co-partnership with Adolph Brandt in the practice of law in Augusta, which continued until Mr. Brandt's removal to Atlanta.
