We regret to learn the melancholy intelligence. Mr. Hurt was well known to a number of our readers, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him.--Col. Enq. [Columbus Enquirer, Muscogee Co. GA] Warrenton, Ga., Dec. 21, 1841 Benjamin Hurt, Esq.--Dear Sir: It becomes my painful duty to announce to you the death of WILLIAM HURT, who was killed, on Friday, the 17th inst, by a tree falling on him, while going from Abraham Brinckley's to Shivers' mill in Warren county. The horse that he was riding was also killed. Mr. Hurt never spoke or moved after the tree fell on him. Solomon Miller was in company with him, and escaped from the same death by only two or three feet. William Hurt was buried at my house, on Saturday, the 18th instant, and every thing was done by me, for the occasion, that was necessary and proper. Yours truly, JOHN McCRARY Additional Comments: Macon Georgia Telegraph was apparantly copying from the Columbus Enquirer.
