"Area Obituaries: Mrs. Ruby Patterson"
Mrs. Ruby Clark Patterson, a retired schoolteacher, of Providence Nursing Home in
Sparta died 
Sunday Feb 3 at her residence. She was 96. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
Feb 5 at 
Sheppard Funeral Home in Gibson with the Rev. George Hawkins officiating. Burial was
in Shoals 
Cemetery in Mitchell. Mrs. Patterson, a native of Warren County, had retired as a
teacher, and had 
worked at Warner Robins Air Force Base. She had lived in Hancock County for several
years and 
was a member of Warrenton Methodist Church and American Association of University
Women. 
Survivors include a sister, Mamie C. Cheely of Augusta. Pallbearers were Ronald
Cheely, David, 
Cheely, Thomas McElmurray, Ray Toulson, Sammy Toulson and Henry Wood. Memorials may
be 
made to American Cancer Society.

Additional Comments:
Ruby Clark Patterson was the last wife of my paternal grandfather Austin Patterson
of Elberton, 
GA. I do not know when or where they married, but it was after 1944. He died in 1953
and ,in 
preparation for his death, engraved her name "Ruby C." on his headstone at Elmhurst
Cemetery 
in Elberton, GA. It is of note that, 38 years later, when Ruby died either she or
her family chose 
not to bury her next to her late husband.
