He married (as his first wife) his first cousin, daughter of his uncle REESE JOHNSON (brother of his father LEWIS JOHNSON), Emily Johnson.on 24 December 1843. He married married (as his second wife) Sarah Jane Stapleton 23 July 1876 in Warren County, Georgia. John served as a Justice of the Peace in Warren County, Georgia for twenty-five years and as County Surveyor for twenty years. He died 29 April 1905 in Warren County, Georgia. He and both wives are buried at Johnson United Methodist Church in Warren County, Georgia. It is estimated that the photo was taken in the 1870s.
