Such a page is found in the Minutes of Salem Church. There recorded in the year 1880 bearing at the top the name, Greene Whidden, then follows "was born October 12, 1813. Died July 16, 1881." "And was for fifty five years a member of the Baptist Church." On the opposite of that page is another headed "Tribute of Respect." These respects were paid by the church in conference to Brother Greene Whidden. He was loved and highly esteemed as a Deacon of the Church of Salem. His counsel was sought, his direction of affairs of the church was wise, and his influence was good and wholesome beyond measure. They said of him that in that church he was "the brightest light of the community, a model of honesty, and a faithful husband and parent, and a devout follower of the Great Head of the Church." It is men like this whose lives fill the pages of memory and write indelibly upon the hearts of men, God's message to an unsaved world. following notes added by Debra Crosby ---------------------------------------------------------- 1850 Washington Co.
