Barwick when he was writing the book, HISTORY OF THE BARWICK FAMILY, about 1907. It was sent by Martha Robbins of Bassfield, Mississippi who was a daughter of Noel Barwick and the granddaughter of William Barwick who resided in Darlington District, South Carolina. It was written from Benjamin Barwick to Noel Barwick of Williamsburg, Mississippi. Georgia, Washington Co. Sept l, 1846 Dear Bro and Sister once more through the mercy of an Allwise Providence in lengthening out the thread of my life for sixty three years almost, I sit down to write you to inform you of the health of my family. I have been very sick for several weeks but am getting up again. My wife and my son William B. Barwick are well. I am nothing of great importance at this time. There are better crops in this county than I have ever known since I have been in Georgia or Washington County. I live within one quarter of a mile of Sandersville. I want to see you or hear from you by letter or otherwise. All our family connections are well as far as I know. Sister Rhoda went to Florida last winter two years ago, and the next September she died in Hope of Eternal Rest where trouble is all over. Our brother Samuel died last February in Alabama. I now send you all the ages of our brothers and sisters: 1. Nathan Barwick born Aug. 3 1782 2. Benjamin Barwick born 1783 3. James (Jim) Barwick born Jan 23 1784 4. Rhoda Barwick born Nov 23 1785 5. Reddin Barwick born Oct 31 1806 Sister Winnie has been dead about two years, Nathan lives about forty four miles from me in Emanuel Co., brothers William and John live at the same place (Washington Co.) as when you were here and all doing well. Danny Whiddon and family are well and wishes his best respects sent to your family. I understand that Sarah lives in Kentucky. Clay Truitt lives about nineteen miles above Columbus and are doing very well. She writes me they have slaves and money to buy two more. James's daughter lives close to Nathan. She married a man by the name of Moses Hutcheson. Brother, I should be glad if I were living close by you. There are only three in my family, myself, wife and little boy by the name of William B. Barwick. He is twelve years old. My wife's name before we married was Phoebe Curry. Dear Brother I want you to try to come and see me if you can. Write to me the first and every opportunity. I do want to see you very much. Give my best respects to your wife and all the children. Dear Brother excuse my letter as I write with trembling hand just getting out of sickness of the fever and so conclude, I feel I am your loving brother till death. Benjamin Barwick to Noel Barwick Dr. Barwick's comment: The above is valuable for information and impressive for the tender brotherly affection manifested. Not in every Barwick, but the greater number by far are of a spiritual mind and devoted to their Creator for blessings received. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Evidently Benjamin had the William and Elizabeth Phillips Family Bible to have been able to give all these dates. This letter is from the BARWICK FAMILY HISTORY by Dr. S.O. Barwick about 1907. The letter is also on microfilm at Atlanta Archives and History, Atlanta, Georgia.
