Originally this regiment was designated as the 57th Georgia, but was redesignated the 32nd Georgia Infantry regiment in 1862. The 32nd was assigned to G. P. Harrison’s Brigade and was stationed at Savannah, Georgia, before being assigned to the defense of Charleston , S.C. The 32nd was stationed at James Island, Fort Johnson, Morris Island, John's Island, Fort Sumter, and Fort Wagner. The unit was involved in the repulse of the Union attack on July 22, 1863 at Fort Wagner. Company E fought at the Battle of Olustee (Ocean Pond), FL, February 20, 1864 and took part in the Savannah Campaign, before surrendering in North Carolina, April 26, 1865.
