KINMAN 1ST GEORGIA REGIMENT & 3RD COMPANY B, 12TH BATTALION GEORGIA LIGHT ARTILLERY (RUDISILL'S ARTILLERY) 1861 - 1865 WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA Civil War Record of James Kendrick Kinman This record of the service of James K. Kinman was written with his own hand at my home in Atlanta, GA May 1st .1911. He was a private in Co. E. , 1st. Ga. Regt. 1861, Lieut. Co. 12th Ga. Batt. (James A. LeConte, son in law) "He joined Co. E. 1st Ga. Regt. at Laurel Hill, West Virginia in June 1861. He was in Gen. Garnet’s retreat from that point and in the battle of Cheat river about the 9th of July 1861. In Nov 1861 his Regt. joined Stonewall Jackson’s army at Winchester Va., and in Jany 1862 was with that army in Jackson’s Campaign against Hancock Md and Romney West Va. The 1st. Ga. Regt. had enlisted for twelve months and was mustered out in Augusta Ga in May 1862. In June 1862 - five Companies of the old Regt. organized the 12th Ga. Battalion in Augusta - which was sent to East Tennessee to join Gen E. Kirby Smith in his campaign into Kentucky. In Nov. 1862 the Battalion was sent to Savannah Ga and in July 1863 it was sent to Charleston SC where it participated in the long siege of that city. In May 1864 it was sent to the Virginia Army and attached to Early’s Corp, Gordon’s division, Evans Brigade and was in Early’s campaign down the Shenandoah valley to Winchester to Frederick City and in sight of Washington City. He participated in every battle of this campaign and was captured in Early’s defeat at the battle of Winchester Va. Sept 19th 1864 - and sent to Fort Delaware prison. In July 1865 - after the surrender he was discharged and returned to his home in Washington County Ga. He never took the oath of alliegance -" J.K.K. Submitter : William L.
