  SANDERSVILLE - A 67-year-old Sandersville man was killed Monday when a truck 
tire he was working with exploded at a moving company in Sandersville.
  Raymond S. Smith Sr., 67, died while "handling" an inflated tire at Howard 
Sheppard, Inc., according to Howard Sheppard, owner of the company.
  Sheppard said since Smith was alone at the time the exact cause of the 
accident was not immediately determined.
  Services for Smith were held at 2 p.m. today in the Mayo Funeral Home Chapel. 
Burial was in Brownwood Cemetery.
  Smith was a native of Washington County and an associate of Howard Sheppard, 
Inc., for 30 years. He was a member of Sandersville First Baptist Church.
  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Pittman Smith of Sandersville; 
three sons, Raymond Smith Jr. of Atlanta, James Smith of Milledgeville and Joe 
Smith of Macon; and three grandchildren.
