Rawlings Meets a Heavy Loss. Yesterday afternoon the gin house of Mr. Charles G. Rawlings on his plantation about 2 1/2 miles from the city was consumed by fire together with about 40 bales of cotton and 3000 bushels of cotton seed. The fire caught from a match in the seed cotton, which Adams Spinks, (col.), who was feeding the gin, says he heard strike as it came in contact with the saws, and a moment later the whole lint room was ablaze. Mr. Rawlings had two new gins, a feeder, and a press in the building, all of which were burned except the feeder. The gin house was a large two story building only recently erected. The loss is estimated from $4,000 to $5,000. No insurance.
