Many freakish and peculiar tricks were turned by the wind. A bureau was broken into splinters but the glass was left on the floor unbroken. A box of meat was blown away leaving ten sacks of ground peas unmolested. A glass door was blown over a hundred yards and was none the worse for the experience. A house was seen flying up in the air, during the flurry of the wind, and two people were seen to drop from it, then the house bursted into hundreds of parts. One man while in the air saw as a flying partner, a brick chimney and also saw it when it tore to pieces, this man was not seriously hurt. The shipping clerk heard the roar and mistook it for the freight. He said "the freight is not quite due but she is coming". A large pine fell near one of the few cabins left, and had not the pine broke in two it would have crashed through the center of the house. The top was broken off and passed over the house and fell in line with the other part of the tree. Both ends are near the house. Near twenty people out of every hundred were killed or injuried.
