Hodges came on to Sandersville and surrendered to Sheriff B.A. English and was lodged in the county jail. Coroner R.L. Davis summoned a jury to make an investigation of the killing, and after viewing the body which was at Sandersville Undertaking Company being prepared for burial, adjoured until Thursday morning in order to make a more thorough investigation of the cause that brought about the tragedy and find out all that was possible before declaring a verdict. According to Hodges statement Cochran had been to his house Monday evening and had returned there early Tuesday morning. He claims that Cochran had insulted his wife and had caught her by her dress, when he fired the shot which caused instant death. Relatives of Cochran claim that this is improbable, as he had no weapon of any description, and they are inclined to believe that the tragedy did not occur in the manner reported. No one saw the killing except Hodges and his wife. Cochran is a widower and leaves two little girls. Hodges has a wife and five children.
