Tanner, radioman, third class, USN, son of Cleon I. Tanner of Route 4, Sandersville, Ga. has reported for duty aboard the Navy's newest antisubmarine destroyer, the USS Basilone, which was commissioned July 26, at the Naval Shipyard, Boston, Mass. The Basilone was named for the late Marine Gunnery Sergeant John Basilone, who won the Congressional medal of Honor for outstanding herioism in action on Guadaicanal. It is the second vessel of its type to be commissioned and with its sister ship, the USS Epperson, will operate extensively to develop new anti- submarine "hunter-killer" techniques.
