DAVID CUMMING. July 30 18 41 Additional Comments: This newspaper is not one of those extracted by Tad Evans in his excellent books. An image of this one issue was found on an LDS microfilm (US/CAN 376968, Item 2) of Washington county Bibles. It was included with the Bibles because two obituaries from one family were in this one 4-page issue, and descendants had saved the issue for over 120 years until it was microfilmed in the early 1960's. Fortunately, the researchers decided to microfilm all 4 pages of the issue. This advertisement about a robbery at the local store lists many people living in or near the Giles District area of Washington County, Georgia and is a valuable addition to the 1840 census. For one comparison of purchasing power, the Economic History Services web site suggests $10 in 1841 is equivalent to about $200 in 2003.
