At this juncture the automobile moved forward as the lights changed, and the driver proceeded on his way, evidently unconscious of the fact that the snake had been a fellow passenger. The men who witnessed the scene at once began killing the snake with their heels, as there were no sticks or stones convenient. It proved to be a young rattlesnake, having only one button. How it got into the car remained a mystery, as there was no way of ascertaining how or when it entered.
