Mrs. Brooks was about 53 years of age, and had been a consistent member of the Methodist Church for about forty years. Her life was short compared with some, but it was long enough to accomplish "her mission", when the death angel came and bore her spirit home to heaven. The thought that they have a mother in heaven, will influence the children to so live, that dying, they may meet her again in that happy place, where the wicked cease from troubling and the weary are at rest. Doubtless heaven seems nearer to them than ever before, and they can see by faith the beautiful hand beckoning them upward, ever upward. Dear children, when you place flowers on her grave, remember that she is an earthly flower transplanted to the heavenly garden there to be beautiful and sweet forever. Mrs. Brooks had been ill for about two weeks, but we all thought she would recover, so that when the news came "she is dead" it was like an unexpected blow, and all hearts were saddened. Our hearts go out in sympathy to the husband and children that have been so sadly bereaved. The husband will miss his kind and loving wife, and the children will miss a gentle affectionate mother. But they sorrow not as those without hope, for she left testimony of her implicit trust and faith in her Savior's love and willingness to save all who will come unto him. Our Church has lost a faithful and useful member. She loved her church and was ever ready to do what she could to further the spread of the gospel. May he who doeth all things well, comfort all the bereaved hearts, and help them to prepare to meet her in heaven.
