Godfrey, prominent Sandersville lawyer, died Sunday, Feb. 5, in Rawlings Sanitarium. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 6, at 4:30 o'clock at Sandersville Methodist Church. The Rev. George E. Clary, Jr., pastor of the church, officiated and was assisted by the Rev. Dr. Joseph M. Branch of Davisboro. Mr. Godfrey would have been 56 in April. He was born in Jefferson County in 1900, son of Mrs. Annie Lyons Godfrey and the late Jim Godfrey. He was a member of the Bar Association and from 1928 until 1932 Mr. Godfrey was Solicitor of the City Court of Sandersville. Also Mr. Godfrey was a member of the Sandersville Methodist Church. Mr. Godfrey is survived by his wife, the former Miss Julia Herrin; one daughter, Jane Ann; mother, Mrs. Jim Godfrey; one brother, Henry Godfrey, both of Warner Robins; two sisters, Mrs. J.L. Brock, Davisboro, Mrs. Hubert Dixon, Waycross; several nieces and nephews and other relatives. Pallbearers were, Warren Hall, Therrell Murphy, Lewis West, Hubert Roughton, Newsom Summerlin, and Charlie Moye. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Bar Association and officials of the court. Interment was in Brownwood Cemetery with Mayo Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
