Lord, who died suddenly on Saturday, June 22nd, were held at 5:30 Monday in the Chapel of Mayo Funeral Home. The Rev. Wm. G. (Bill) Deakins, of Wrens, assisted by the Rev. M.C. Ferguson, officiated. Burial followed in Brownwood Cemetery. Mr. Lord was a prominent farmer, a retired school bus driver and member of the Sisters Baptist Church. He was a native of Washington County, and born in 1909. Mr. Lord would have been 59 on July 5th. He was a son of the late Horace Duggan Lord and Mrs. Lord, who before her marriage was Miss Donie Brooks. Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Helen Brett; three sons, Lester, Fred and Buford Lord, all of Sandersville; his mother, Mrs. Horace D. Lord; one sister, Mrs. Talmadge Wright, of Sandersville; two brothers, Louie Lord of Sandersville and Roy Lord of Cordele; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers were J. Warren Hall, W. Newsom Summerlin, Wilber Newsome, W.B. Kay, J.B. Metts and Jewell Bridges. Honorary pallbearers were Green Jones, Dr. E.G. Newsome, Herman C. Layton, Howard Sheppard, Willis Jones, J.D. Garner Jr., Emmett Adams, J.B. Garrett, D.E. McMaster, T.C. Carr, T. Lamar Brantley, W.B. Wiles, Roger C. Fulghum, J. Euree Curry, Peeler Leverett, Mercer Osborne, Washington County School Supt. W.B. Ouzts Jr., J. Cecil Page and a group of men who had served as school bus drivers with Mr. Lord.
