Funeral services will be held at 11:00am We Wednesday, November 18th, in the chapel of Heritage Memorial Funeral Home with bu burial at 3:00pm Wednesday in the Tabernacle United Methodist Church Cemetery in in Washington County, Ga. Visitation will be from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday at at the funeral home. Rev. Johnny Ellison will officiate. He was a native of Washington County, Ga. Born June 13th 1916 near Mount Olive Church in Warthen, Ga. to Wilma Clyde Lord and Mary Sue Wilson Lord. He was the 3rd 3rd of 4 children. He worked and lived on the family farm and drove trucks for a li a living during his early years. Hugh attended the Sandersville public schools 1922-1934 and graduated Sa Salutatorian of the graduation class of 1934, he began working for the De Department of Public Safety in the Washington, Ga. and Waycross, Ga. office. In January 1943, he was drafted into the Army Aircorps and served in the Europe European Theater of Operations (England, North Africa, Sicily and Italy) during WW II WW II with the 8th and 12th Air Force. Afterward, Hugh returned to the Drivers License Department of the Public Safety in T in Thomasville, Ga. and worked from 1946-1952, which completed a 7 year career with with the Dept. of Public Safety. While employed there, he met Marion Bruce and they they married on December 24, 1949, at Dawson Street United Methodist Church. Reve Reverend Joe Bridges was the presiding pastor. Hugh returned to the Air Force in M in May 1952. As the years passed, Hugh and Marion welcomed 4 children into thei their happy fold. After he served tours in Scotland and Thailand, Hugh retired in J in July 1969 at RAFB. Hugh then worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1970-Sept Sept. 1981, in the South Davis office in Warner Robins, Ga. His early reti retirement years were full and blessed. He was able to assist many of his fami family members and church family too in their times of need. Hugh was a member of t of the Green Acres Baptist Church for over 38 years and believed to be the olde oldest member. His beloved wife went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2007 2007. He was also preceded in death by a son John Lord and a great grandson Aide Aiden Day. Mr. Lord was industrious, energetic, and hard-working. He was devoted to his fa family and church, and could always be depended upon. He was deeply loved and ad admired by many, and will be missed for his generosity, honesty, work ethic, in intelligence, courage and loyalty. He is survived by his children, Susan L. Ganus (Rick) of Warner Robins, Ruth L. Ba Baltimore (Eugene) of Jeffersonville, Hugh Dorsey Lord, Jr., (Cindy) of Je Jeffersonville, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and several nieces, ne nephews and extended family members.
