Rachels, 84, who died late Saturday at her residence on North Drive after an extended illness. The Rev. J. Gordon Hooten and Dr. C. D. Graves officiated at the rites and Townsend Brothers Funeral home was in charge. Pallbearers were John Ross, Lee Palmer, Hugh Moore, Johnnie Cochran, Dr. Lester Porter and Murry Chappell. Mrs. Rachels was born in Washington county and had been a resident of Laurens County since 1900. She had been a member of the First Christian Church since it was organized here, and had been an active member of the UDC for many years. Survivors are her children, Mrs. J. J. Jordan of Dublin, Mrs. H. C. Jones of Quitman, Mrs. Doyle C. Knight of Dublin, Mrs. O.G. Gilbert of Cullman, Ala., and Julian A. Rachels, Sr. of Dublin; 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
