Willis Evans Passes at Miami Former Sandersville Mayor Succumbs to Long Illness News was received here Sunday of the death of A. Willis Evans at his home in Miami, Fla., after an extended illness, aged 67 years. Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Miami, of which Mr. Evans was a deaconn. Interment was in Miami. Mr. Evans was a native of Sandersville, a son of the late Col. and Mrs. B. D. Evans, Sr., prominent citizens of this section in the years of the past. He was educated here and at Mercer University, after which he was elected superintendent of the Sandersville high school. He later entered the law firm of Evans & Evans of this city. He served one term in the Georgia legislature, and was also Mayor of Sandersville several terms. During the Florida boom, he moved to Miami, where he had since been engaged in the practice of law. Surviving members of the family are his wife, formerly Miss Lillian Booz of Cedartown, Ga.; four daughters, Mrs. S. C. Whittlesy of Opelika, Ala., Mrs. J. L. Chaille, Miss Marion Evans, and Miss Sarah Jane Evans of Miami; one brother, Geo. C. Evans of Sandersville; and one sister, Mrs. T. H. Booz of Rome, Ga., and several nieces and nephews. During his residence in Sandersville Mr. Evans was prominent in church work, having served as superintendent of the Baptist Sunday school for 15 consecutive years, and also was moderator of the Washington Baptist Association for several terms. W. Third avenue, after an illness of six months. Evans came to Miami 13 years ago from Sandersville, Ga. He was senior member of the law firm of Shipp, Evans and Kline. A graduate of Mercer university, Macon, he served several times in the Georgia state legislature. For a number of years he was municipal judge of Sandersville. Kiwanis Club Member He was a member of the Dade county and state bar associations; a member of the Kiwanis club, the Masonic lodge in Savannah, Ga. He was a charter member of his university's chapter of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was also a deacon of the Central Baptist Church. He leaves the widow, Mrs. Lillian B. Evans; four daughters, Mrs. C. S. Whittelsy, Opalika, Ala.; Miss Marion Evans, Miss Sara Jane Evans and mrs. James L. Chaille of Miami; a brother, G. C. Evans of Sandersville, and a sister, Mrs. T. H. Baaz, Rome, Ga. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Central Baptist Church by Rev. J. L. White. Place of burial has not been decided. The W. H. Combs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Among honorary pallbearers will be deacons of the First Baptist Church, president and secretary of the Kiwanis club and the Dade County Bar Association. Active pallbearers will be E. C.
