Sandersville Progress, June 1992
  Martha Elizabeth Pittman Smith, 81, of Sandersville, died Friday, June 19, at
the Memorial Hospital of Washington County following an extended illness.
  Funeral services were held Sunday, June 21, from First Baptist Church with
Rev. Dan McPherson officiating. Interment was in Brownwood Cemetery.
  Mrs. Smith was born November 6, 1910 in Washington County, the daughter of
Bennie Pittman and Claude Poole Pittman. She was a manufactured clothes
inspector and an Honorary Den Mother of Brownie Troop 123. Mrs. Smith was a
member of the First Baptist Church.
  Survivors include three sons, Raymond Smith Jr. of Atlanta, James Smith of
Haddock and Joe Smith of Sandersville; three sisters, Susie Belle Knight of
Tennille, Louise Carswell of Brunswick and Cluther Golder of Chamblee; three
brothers, John B. Pittman of Sandersville, William Harris Pittman of Bradenton,
Florida, Solomon J. Pittman of Sandersville; and four grandchildren.
  Pallbearers were Howard Sheppard, Cliff Sheppard, Neil Pittman, Richard Rawls,
Jimmy Pittman and Jimmy Boatright.
