SMITH DIES OF HEART ATTACK - Joe S. Smith, 64, Washington county surveyor for nearly 40 years, died Tuesday following a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from Mt. Moriah church, with the Rev. C.T. Vinzant, pastor of the Sandersville Baptist church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Harvey Mitchell of Wrightsville. Interment was in Mt. Moriah cemetery. A native of Washington county, Mr. Smith had lived here all his life. He was a deacon in the Sandersville Baptist church, and was widely known. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Etta Wood Smith; two sons, Guy and Raymond Smith; one daughter, Mrs. R.T. Brantley of Tennille; one grandchild, Rodelle Brantley; and a number of other relatives. Pallbearers were A.W. Smith, Arthur Stephens, T.J. Swint Jr., Weston Doolittle, C.A. Shealy, and W.D. Hall. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the Baptist church, and members of the P.R. Taliaferro Bible class of the Baptist Sunday school. Arrangements were made by the Sandersville Funeral Home.
