Services were held at 2pm Saturday, September 21, 2013 in the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Sandersville with burial in the Brownwood Cemetery in Sandersville. The Reverend Larry Glover officiated. Pallbearers were Chris Rogers, Kenny Rogers, Jeffery Rawls, Michael Newsome, Neal Pittman and Joey Smith. Mr. Smith was a native of Washington County, the son of the late Raymond Sampson Smith, Sr. and the late Martha Elizabeth Pittman Smith. He had lived in Jonesboro for many years and was a retired claims adjuster for Healthfield Insurance Company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sandersville. Mr. Smith was a communications specialist serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He is predeceased by a sister Martha Elizabeth Smith. Survivors include his close friends, Richard and Irene Rawls of Jonesboro; his Godchildren, Jeffery Rawls, Raymond Rawls, Chris Rogers and Kenny Rogers and families; his brothers, James Benjamin Smith and his wife Mary Esther of Haddock and Joseph Lamar Smith and his wife Carolyn of Sandersville; his nephew, Curtis Smith and his wife Misty of Haddock and several other nephews and one niece. May and Smith Funeral Directors in Sandersville were in charge of these arrangements.
