Smith, Sr. - Funeral services for Raymond S. Smith, Sr., 67, of Sandersville were held Wednesday, June 18, at 2 pm in the chapel of Mayo Funeral Home. Officiating ministers were the Rev. Marion Lastinger, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. Burns Willis, pastor of the United Methodist Church. Mr. Smith died following an accident June 16. Mr. Smith was born January 3, 1908, in Washington County, the son of the late Sampson Smith and Mrs. Etta Wood Smith. He had been associated with Howard Sheppard Inc. for nearly 30 years and was a member of Sandersville First Baptist Church. Survivors are his wife, the former Miss Elizabeth Pittman; three sons, Raymond Smith, Jr. Atlanta, James Smith, Milledgeville, Joe Smith, Macon; three grandchildren, Michael Lamar Smith, Curtis B. Smith, Wendy Smith; one aunt, Mrs. Mary Hartley, Jacksonville, Fla.; one niece, Mrs. Mrs. Browny Folsom, Valdosta; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Grace Smith, Sandersville. Pallbearers were Billy Garner, Silas Lord, Cliff Sheppard, Howard Sheppard, Joe Giddens, and Albert Fields. Honoray pallbearers were personnel and employees of Howard Sheppard Inc. and Smith and Sheppard Co. Mayo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with interment in Brownwood Cemetery.
