The Toombs County native had lived in Wayne County the past 37 years and was a retired millwright at Rayonier of Jesup. He was a member of the Anderson Drive Baptist Church and former president of the Pace Local No. 787 of Rayonier. He was also a member of the M&T Hunting Club of Lyons. He was predeceased by his father, Herman Eugene Collins. Survivors are his wife of 38 years, Jerri Guthrie Collins of Jesup; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Renee Collins of Thomson and Kipp and Jenny Collins of Thomaston; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Jeff Roberson of Jesup; his mother, Mary Collins James of Lyons; five sisters, Jewell Parker and Roslyn Wiggins, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Bobbie McCoy of Santee, S.C., Diane Stanley of Lyons, and Stephanie Talley of Yulee, Fla.; four brothers, Fred Collins of Lakeland, Fla., Ronald Collins and Dale Collins, both of Jacksonville, Fla., and Terry Collins of Lyons; four grandchildren, Brandon Collins of Thomson, Harris Collins of Thomaston, Hunter and Laura Kate Roberson, both of Jesup; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 15 from Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Brown, the Rev. Bill Burnett, and the Rev. Billy Harris officiating. Interment was at Palmetto Cemetery in Glynn County. Active pallbearers were Tommy Mixon, Jimmy O'Neal, Walter Dart, Lamar Landon, Billy Cowart, Michael Thomas, Mike McKinley, Burl Messer, R.T. Stanley, Jr., and Jerry Williamson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Local No. 787 Pulp and Paper Union of Rayonier. Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home of Jesup was in charge of arrangements.
