Mrs. J. R. Stapleton Beloved Preston Lady Was Buried Saturday Funeral services for Mrs. Carrie Spann Stapleton, age 86, who died at her residence in Preston Friday morning at 11 o'clock, after an extended illness, were held from her residence at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with her former pastor, the Rev. E. T. Moore, of Americus officiating. Acting pallbearers at the funeral were James Fliming, Charlie Will Stapleton, Clayton Spann, W. S. Banks, Will Cole and James Cole. Mrs. Stapleton was born in Webster County, August 21, 1848, and was united in marriage with the late Hon. James R. Stapleton, April 28, 1878. Mr. Stapleton preceded health in death on March 15, 1933. Mrs. Stapleton confessed her faith in Christ in her girlhood and joined the Macedonia Baptist Church in Webster County. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J. L. Lunsford, of Preston; Mrs. J. H. Strickland, of Concord; and Miss Florence Stapleton, of Preston. Several grandchildren survive, also. Source: The Stewart - Webster Journal Friday, Morning, June 30, 1933. Page 8.
