Walker, the son of Thomas and Isabel Walker. When the war between the state come on he was among the first to volunteer and joined Company A of the North Carolina Infantry, and never shirked a duty and received no bullets in the back. A braver, truer and beter soldier never fired a gun. When the war closed he returned home and the next year he married Catherine Ann Long, and to this union eleven children were born, viz: Josephine Holmes; Lizzie Powell, A.B. Walker Jr., Isaac Walker, July Gilder, Jessie Swales, Luther Walker, Penny Findley, George Walker and Minnie Massey; all of who are grown and married and occupy prominent places in the make up of the State. He has about one hundred grand children. He was a member of the Snow Hill Baptist Church and lived true to the cause of the Lowly Confederacy till death called him home to the true and good on the 12th day of January, 1929. He was nearly 96 years of age, and he never did anything to bring reproach upon an individual and was one of our most honorable citizens. He was in ___battles during the war although he stayed near front, doing his best to kill every Yankee that dared to face him. God saved him for a purpose and he leaves a monument to his imperishable memory of a great host of friends, relatives and near and dear ones, all of whom lovingl called him "Uncle Brice." "A good name is rather to be chosen that great riches," and he bore as good name as any man. Thirty-eight years ago he cast his lot with Georgia and every where he ever lived he had the respect, confidence, love and esteen of all the people. He often attended the Old Soldiers' reunion and was the idol of the Old Soldiers. His good wife died about three years ago, and he has gone to join her in the Heavenly regions beyond, where the soul of man doth never die. He was buried in the Snow Hill Church Cemetery last Sunday afternoon, funeral services being conducted in the church by Rev. H.L. Avery. Truely a great and good man is gone, and his eleven children and one hundred grandchildren have lost a loving father and grandfather, but our loss is Heaven's gain. This christian's home's in Heaven above, Ushered there on the wings of love, And there with him we'll shout and sing, Eternal praises to our Saviour and King. Mrs. W.H.
